Commercial Storefront Awnings in St. Augustine, FL

Commercial Storefront Awnings in St. Augustine

Awnings That Sell

A storefront awning is more than shade. It's signage, identity, and curb appeal rolled into one. For businesses on St. George Street and the surrounding historic district, a well-designed awning can double foot traffic.

We build commercial awnings for restaurants, boutiques, offices, and service businesses throughout the First Coast.

Styles We Build

Every storefront has different needs. Our most common commercial styles include:

  • Dome awnings — rounded front, classic retail look
  • Gable awnings — peaked for visual impact
  • Quarter-barrel — deep projection, great for sidewalk dining
  • Flat or slope — modern minimalist storefronts
  • Fixed-frame with removable fabric covers

We also build custom shapes when a project calls for it. If you've seen it done, we can match it.

Historic District Approvals

St. Augustine's historic district has strict rules on exterior alterations. Most awning projects in the Old City require approval from the Historic Architectural Review Board before install.

We've handled dozens of these approvals. We prepare the drawings, specs, and fabric samples the board wants to see. Plan on 6 to 10 weeks from first meeting to approved install.

Branding Options

Your awning is prime advertising space. We add graphics several ways:

  • Silkscreen printing for logos and text
  • Applied vinyl letters for updates or lease changes
  • Heat-transfer graphics for multi-color designs
  • Embroidered patches for accent panels
  • Full-color digital print for photo-quality images

Branding is included in most quotes. We work with your existing logo files or recommend a designer if you need new artwork.

Frame Materials

Commercial awnings take more abuse than residential. We use heavier-gauge aluminum or steel frames built to handle wind, rain, and the occasional bump from delivery trucks. All frames get a baked-on finish in the color of your choice.

Frames typically last 20 to 30 years. Fabric covers last 8 to 12 years and can be replaced without removing the frame.

Fabric and Materials

Most commercial awnings use solution-dyed acrylic like Sunbrella Firesist, which is flame-retardant and meets fire codes for public buildings. We also build with:

  • Vinyl-coated polyester for back-lit awnings
  • Aluminum composite panels for modern storefronts
  • Polycarbonate for canopies that need to hold up under heavy rain

Every fabric we spec is UV-stable and rated for Florida's climate.

Back-Lit and Illuminated Awnings

Illuminated awnings turn your storefront into 24-hour signage. We run LED strip lighting inside the awning frame and use translucent fabric so the graphics glow at night. Power runs through a hidden conduit and connects to a standard timer or photo sensor.

Illumination adds roughly 20 to 30 percent to a project budget. For corner locations or busy streets, the payback is usually fast.

Installation

We install commercial awnings outside business hours when needed to avoid disruption. Most installs take half a day to two days depending on size. We handle all permits through St. Johns County or the City of St. Augustine building department.
